Echad Mi Yodea / Who Knows One
Echad Mi Yodea (Who Knows One?) is a popular song sung near the end of the Passover seder in many Jewish communities. This article from the Jewish Music Research Centre discusses the song's origins and variations. The University of Washington analyzes the history of the song in the Sephardic tradition. Eight are the days for circumcision. Seven are the days of the week. Six are the orders of the Mishnah. Five are the books of the Torah. Four are the matriarchs. Three are the patriarchs. Two are the tablets of the covenant. One is our God in Heaven and Earth.

[1] Luchot HaBrit (in Hebrew: לוחות הברית) – “The tablets of the covenant": According to the Hebrew Bible, the Tablets of the Law as they are widely known in English, or Tablets of Stone, Stone Tablets, or Tablets of Testimony in the Exodus 34:1, were the two pieces of stone inscribed with the Ten Commandments when Moses ascended biblical Mount Sinai as written in the Book of Exodus.
[2] Three Fathers - Abraham, his son Isaac, and Isaac's son Jacob, also named Israel, the ancestor of the Israelites. These three figures are referred to collectively as the Patriarchs (of the Bible), and the period in which they lived is known as the patriarchal age.
[3] Four Mothers – Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel. The patriarchs are entombed along with their primary wives, known as the matriarchs (Sarah, Rebekah and Leah), at the Cave of the Patriarchs, a site held holy by Judaism. Rachel, Jacob's other wife, is said to be buried separately at what is known as Rachel's Tomb, near Bethlehem, at the site where she is believed to have died in childbirth.
[4]Chumash Torah (also Ḥumash; Hebrew: חומש) is a Torah in printed form (i.e. codex) as opposed to a Sefer Torah, which is a scroll. The word comes from the Hebrew word for five, ḥamesh (חמש). A more formal term is Ḥamishah Ḥumshei Torah, "five fifths of Torah". It is also known by the Latinised Greek term Pentateuch in common printed editions.
[5] Mishnah or Mishna (Hebrew: מִשְׁנָה, "study by repetition", from the verb shanah שנה, or "to study and review") is the first major written collection of the Jewish oral traditions known as the "Oral Torah".
[6] Milah or brit milah – circumcision; a Jewish baby boy is circumcised on the eighth day from birth.
[7] Mount Sinai - According to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic tradition, the biblical Mount Sinai was the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments.
[8] Eleven stars of Joseph's dream – In his dream Joseph saw the Sun, Moon and eleven stars: “Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me” (Genesis 37: 9). The sun, the moon, and eleven stars in Joseph's dream can be interpreted as a symbol of Israel, the sun representing Jospeh, the moon his wives and the eleven stars his eleven sons.
